I have three choices of radio available.
1. Motorolla gm338
2. Gme tx4200
3. Gme tx3220
I would like to use the tx3220 as it is so small and will hang nicely under the 75 series dash. Can anyone tell me where I can download the software and pick up an adapter cord?

You've got me interested in this now. What frequencies are you going to scan and what do you expect to be on them?
BTW I have the software for the 3220, PM me if you can't find it.
Cheers,
RossA
Interesting indeed. Assuming that in this case the term UHF refers to PRS, as usually seems to be the case on this forum, any radio sold for this service should come with the channels already programed, and it would illegal to set them to anything other than the approved frequencies and then use it to transmitt.

I just guessed it was for programming the 20 receive only channels, hadnt considered that you could reprogram the supplied 20 tx/rx ones. But I suppose you could, we used to reprogram our motorola's at work on our approved frequencies..

Now to answer other peoples questions I want to program the radio to pick up bush fire brigade, ses etc as I am on the road two hours a day for work. I have no intention of transmitting. But would be mice to hear what's happening.

Righto, do you now anyone else that has done this? I know that all the main chat in SA is via trunked digital radio and you need a trunk tracker receiver. I think that some of the scene chat is via handheld uhf and you would have to be right on it to receive it.

does anyone have a "special" bit of software to program Motorola GM950 plus out of band
I live in my own little world. But it's okay. They know me here.

Try the ICOM ic400pro, it can be programmed for quite a few 'receive only' channels as it has allocated channels for it.

I have the IC-41S which is the handheld version. It also has 128 channels.
The IC-41S can be programmed for RX on the unit, or using a computer and special cable. I have the cable and with it and the dealer software all 128 channels can be programed for TX. Of course, you need to be licenced to use any freqs you program as TX and you can't buy the dealer software unless you are a dealer (but it can be found on the internet).
To be honest, the dealer software is pretty handy to have as you can program many other stuff like selcal codes etc. I changed the names for the UHF CB channels 5, r5 and 35 to read EMERG 5, EMERG r5 etc (note, r5 stands for repeater, no pressing a duplex button, just choose the "r" channels like any other).
I hope to buy the Icom 400Pro for in the car. If you are licenced, 25watts on transmit for non UHF channels. Some people program in "comercial" channels with 25w for emergency comms when all else fails. Thats illegal, but if you lifes at risk then who cares!!!
